As a photographer based in Calgary, Alberta, I'm fortunate to experience world-class locations with incredible photography opportunities all year round. Majestic mountains, fall colors, crystal lakes, spring wildflowers, mountain rivers, badlands, big sky prairies, wildlife -- you name it, Alberta has it. If you're looking for a cracking good photo destination, look no further!
Sometimes, though, a change of venue is just the ticket. I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to share exciting international locations with a small group. In the past, I've been involved in photo events from the US Southwest to Iceland, and pursued my own photo expeditions in locations such as the UK and Crete. So many wonderful places, so little time!
Time... there's the rub! Amazing landscapes can be a fun and creative challenge to explore at leisure. But sometimes finding ideal locations at the right time can be daunting. Guiding small-group events, I apply my expertise as a photographer plus my knowledge of locations across the seasons to help each participant concentrate on having fun and building a satisfying portfolio of images. For those looking to improve their photography, I also cover important hands-on topics on how to work with subject, composition and light plus techniques for shooting and processing. When I partner with other photographer / tour leaders, I chose to work with people who share the same approach plus have the ability to add unique skills and experience to my own.
For more details on my tours, workshops and events, please visit the Vivid Aspect Tours, Workshops & Events page at my blog or check the news section here on this site for periodic updates. Also, feel free to contact me directly for information about these or other events.
Many of my Alberta-based events are based at the award-winning Aurum Lodge, offering a unique and highly suitable base of operations for photographing the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies in beautiful David Thompson Country.

After taking a year's break from the concept, I'm pleased to say that the photography masterclass is back! The first masterclass was a success, and this year I'll be co-leading a new group in an opportunity for creative photography. This coming June, I'm partnering with Banff-based professional photographer and tour leader Brian Merry on the Summery 2013 Landscape Photography Masterclass. For 6 days / 7 nights, Brian and I will lead a small group of photographers through an event designed to focus and improve creative development in landscape photography. Unlike my other photo tours, the Masterclass combines field work with seminars and targeted field exercises. This event is not primarily for people wanting to spend every available minute photographing, but for those who would like to make their field photography more creative and productive based on their own personal goals. Spaces available for this small group event -- maximum 8 participants.
For more information, see the masterclass page at the Vivid Aspect Photography blog, or Brian's event description page. Join us for what will be a unique experience in creative photographic development!

Iceland has been on a lot of photographers' radar screens, including mine. Perhaps it's on yours as well? In July of 2013, I'll be partnering with Markéta Kalvachová on an exciting new event. For 10 days, she and I will lead a small group of photographers to amazing locations across Western & Southern Iceland. My trip to Iceland in June of 2012 was incredible, and in 2013 the experience should be no less amazing. If long summer days in a breath-taking land with a group of like-minded folks sounds good to you, check out our Icelandic Summer Light photo tour in 2013! Spaces available for this small group tour.
For more information, see the tour description page at the Vivid Aspect Photography blog, or at Markéta's tour description page. My images of Iceland are appearing here, in the Iceland gallery.
